Blogging for The Great Gatsby
Ladies and gents,
Please follow the steps below to set up an account to start blogging. We will be using Turnitin.com for blogging. You should already created an account for turning in your papers. If that is the case, you will not need to sign up for a login name and password - Hopefully you remember your password!
Follow these instructions :)
- Go to www.turnitin.com
- Log in
- If you are not signed up for English 11 Put in our class ID, which is 5691927 (Bass)
- Put in our class password, which is English11 (Bass)
- At the top of the page (right under the turnitin logo), click on the discussion tab.
- Click on the date of the Gatsby Reflection that you need to comment on.
- When you have finished with your post, click on “submit reply to topic”
- You are DONE!

English 11 Blogging Assignment
GOALS: students will demonstrate: comprehension of plot, characters, conflicts, symbolism, diction (word choice), syntax (sentence structures), historical context; Appropriate use of electronic public forums;
Directions: At least once per week you will complete a blog entry in turnitin.com.
You will sign up for, or be assigned, your role the first week and each following week you’ll rotate to the next role. You will have each role at least once before you repeat a role.
Roles:
A. First Responder: Responsible for posting open-ended, thoughtful, brilliant questions and insights about the week’s material to the class blog by each Tuesday 6pm. (3 to 4 sentences)
B. Quotemaster “G”: Responsible for posting a sick quote from the week’s reading to the class blog by each Tuesday at 6pm. Explain why the quote is significant to you or to the book (2-3 sentences)
C. “Nuclear” Reactor: responsible for building upon, disagreeing with, or clarifying the First Responder’s or QuoteMaster’s posts by Wednesday at 6 pm. Make sure you explain thoroughly, use details from the text (about character, plot, conflict, theme, etc.) in your explanation.
POINTS:
Each entry is worth 20 points, so make sure you are descriptive and follow the directions. This is your way to prove to me that you’re reading the book.
